Cutting Fluids

Soluble Cutting Fluids are used for cooling: Type W1 is called an emulsion with less amount of emulsifier and turbid diluents that are mainly used for the cutting process, while Type W2 is soluble (transparent or translucent) and principally made of diluents that are mainly used for the grinding process. Soluble cutting fluids are mainly made of surfactant and antirust additive. The emulsion is mixed with water, and the mixing ratio decides the performance of it.
Emulsion Type Soluble Cutting Fluids become white-translucent when it is diluted with water and has high lubrication and cooling performance, making it highly feasible for the high-speed cutting process. It offers an excellent lubrication to improve the machining precision and tool life cycle. Its outstanding rust prevention and cleaning performance control corrosion while enhancing the cleanness of the equipment.

Synthetic Type Soluble Cutting Fluids are made of artificial synthetic base oil instead of the natural one.
While the composition of natural base oil depends on the type, origin, and refining method of crude oil, the base oil of synthetic metal machining fluids is systematically synthesized so that it is made up of one or a few of chemicals.
Such synthetic-type soluble cutting fluids are widely used for the multiple machining and grinding processes, but water is added so it is important to control the microorganism. In addition, the synthetic metal machining fluids are more vulnerable to the mold than the bacteria so a fungicide is added.

Synthetic Soluble Type Soluble Cutting Fluids have the less oil but more surfactant than the emulsion-type soluble metal machining fluids. In addition, it is made up of fatty acid and nonchloride extreme-pressure additive to combine the benefits of soluble (emulsion) and synthetic oil. The synthetic soluble-type cutting fluids also contain the ester additive to give the extreme pressure and boundary lubrication effects, enabling the synthetic or semisynthetic metal machining fluids to be used for the difficult cutting and grinding processes (with a concentration of 2–10%).
The semisynthetic metal machining fluids also contain water so it is important to control the growth of microorganism as other soluble metal machining oils. It has better corrosion resistance and lubrication performance than the synthetic metal machining fluids but more diluents, making it more difficult to remove the working fluids by dispersing the inflowing hydraulic oils instead of rejecting them.

Neat Cutting Fluids focus on the lubrication and are used for hard cutting processes without dilution but with high demulsibility. It is mainly composed of mineral oil, lubricating oil, and extreme pressure additive.
The base oil is a well-refined naphthene and paraffin mineral — ISO VG10 or an even better machine oil is mostly used. In addition, the type 1 contains the extreme pressure additive, while the type 2 contains none.
Neat cutting fluids contain excellent and different extreme pressure lubrication additives, and rust preventive additive or antioxidant is added if necessary for the cooling of the frictional heat from the cutting and grinding; smooth machining surface; longer tool life cycle; and economic machining.

Electrical Discharge Machining Fluids are used for the spark machining that uses the spark generated when the positive and negative poles meat. They minimize the gas generated from the spark gap; facilitate the discharge of the generated gas; cool down the electrode, chip, and the remaining ion in the spark gap in order to recover the electric insulation; improve the precision; and enable quick operation.
Paraffin hydrocarbon mineral oil is the main component for this. Such electro discharge machining fluids scatter the molten metal from the electro discharge machining; discharges the scattered machining fluids between the poles; and cool down the radiating part. As such, it requires appropriate viscosity; excellent cooling and oxidation stability; as well as long-time usability.
