Grease

Grease is a solid or semisolid lubricant made by dispersing a thickener, metallic soap to a base oil, liquid lubricant(mineral or synthetic oil) and is used for the lubrication of bearing, vehicle chassis, and vertical machine where liquid lubricant can't be used.
In general, Korea Industrial Standard classifies the types of grease by the use but characteristics of grease depends on the used thickener, which is a soap made of fatty acid and metal alkali(Ca, Na, Al, and Li). Even if the same thickener is used, they can have far different characteristics according to the characteristics of base oil and additives.
A grease will be selected considering the type of lubrication(ball and roller bearing, sliding bearing, and gears), lubrication environment(operation temperature range and contact of water), operation conditions(speed and load), lubrication method, and cost.
